The Saxon Switzerland National Park – a unique world of sandstone with wild, romantic gorges, small buttes and powerful table mountains – a magical landscape for nature lovers, unmatched in the world. For centuries, Saxon Switzerland has captured poets, romantics and nature lovers in its spell. Weber's “Freischütz” and Wagner's “Lohengrin” were created under the impression of the bizarre world of rocks.

The painters of the German Romantic captured the fascinating shapes and atmosphere on canvas. On their tracks is a hiking trail, the richest in tradition of Saxon Switzerland – the 115 km long Malerweg. Even the most attractive scenic section of the 1.100 km long Cycle track along the river Elbe (called Elberadweg) runs between Bad Schandau and Pirna through Saxon Switzerland, the German part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
